Boris Stefanov

Boris Stefanow , also Stefanoff , actually Boris Stefanow Popow , ( Bulgarian Борис Стефанов ; born June 8, 1894 in Sofia , † December 12, 1979 ibid) was a Bulgarian botanist . His botanical author abbreviation is “ Stef. ".

Life

Stefanov worked from 1954 to 1966 as the director of the Forestry Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . He was a curator at the Herbarium of Sofia University.

In his scientific work he dealt with the flora of Bulgaria. He also devoted himself to questions relating to the historical and ecological geography of plants and to systematics, morphogenesis and physiology .

Honors

He was honored as a Hero of Socialist Labor , the Order of Georgi Dimitrov and the Dimitrov Prize . The plant genus Stefanoffia H. Wolff from the umbelliferae family (Apiaceae) is named after him .
