Boris Tschirky

Boris Tschirky (* 1965 ) is a Swiss politician of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP).

Tschirky studied history, constitutional law and economics at the University of Zurich until 1994 and in 1994 became deputy editor-in-chief of the Rheintalische Volkszeitung . From 1998 he worked in various positions in the area of ​​regional and location promotion. From 2000 to 2004 he was responsible for location promotion and location management in the Office for Economics of the Canton of St. Gallen. From 2008 to 2012 he was the tourism director of the St. Gallen-Bodensee Tourismus SME. He failed in the 2012 election to the St. Gallen Cantonal Council . On 1 January 2013, he was mayor of Gaiserwald . In February 2016 Tschirky won a seat in the election to the Cantonal Council. In addition, a few months earlier he was elected President of the Association of St. Gallen Mayor Presidents. In September 2017 he was one of the candidates for the St. Gallen City Council . In the first ballot, he missed an absolute majority. In October the competing SVP announced that it wanted to support him in the runoff election and withdrew its own candidate, City Parlementarian Jürg Brunner.

In the second ballot on Sunday November 26, 2017, the mayor of Gaiserwald suffered a clear defeat. The GLP candidate, Sonja Lüthi , received 10,096 votes. Boris Tschirky only got 6,966 votes.

Tschirky has been married since 1994 and has two children with his wife. Since 1982 he has been active as a church organist in his spare time in Kriessern and Montlingen . From 1988 to 1991 Tschirky was Vice President and from 1992 to 2007 President of the Kriessern Church Administrative Council. At the same time he represented the Kriessern parish in the Catholic College of the Canton of St. Gallen from 1996 to 2007 .
