Both (noble family)
Both is the name of a Mecklenburg nobility family .
There is no ancestral affinity but a name and coat of arms relationship with the Swedish noble family Bååt.
history
The genus appears for the first time on May 21, 1273 with the knight (miles) Hasse Bot and begins in 1309 with Hinricus Bot the uninterrupted tribe line .
Around 1314 the brothers Heinrich and Johann von Both Herren were on Kalkhorst , which, with its subsidiary estates Rankendorf, Schwansee and Dönkendorf, remained in the family's possession until the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1745, Baron Wilhelm Ludwig Hartwig von Both built the late baroque castle estate Groß Schwansee in the immediate vicinity of the Lübeck Bay .

The coat of arms shows a red boat in silver. On the helmet with red-silver blankets, the boat, on the right and left with four black cock feathers.
