Gustav von Both

Julius Gustav Friedrich von Both (born January 1, 1772 in Schwerin ; † February 7, 1835 in Liegnitz ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Gustav came from the Mecklenburg primeval noble family Both and was the son of the Mecklenburg Lieutenant General, Governor of Schwerin and Lord Chamberlain Hartwig Ulrich von Both (* 1712 - 31 January 1795) and his wife Charlotte Sophie, born of Mecklenburg, from the House of VALZOW († 1793) .

Military career

After attending the Parchim City School , Both joined the Infantry Regiment "Graf Schwerin" No. 52 on March 1, 1787 as a private corporal . As a secondary lieutenant he took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 , taking part in the siege of Warsaw and the battles at Rawka and Skala.

During the Battle of Preussisch Eylau , Both were able to distinguish themselves and received the Pour le Mérite on February 17, 1807 . In his further military career he was commander of the 10th Division from February 12, 1821 and finally rose to Lieutenant General on March 30, 1831. Both as such has been awarded the star for Red Eagle . II Class with oak leaves on March 26, 1832 Pension retired.

family

Both had been married to Auguste Karoline Luise, born von Obernitz (born March 16, 1783 in Prussian-Holland; † July 26, 1857 in Obornik) since March 16, 1808 . She was the daughter of Major General Moritz August von Obernitz . The couple had seven children:
