Moritz August von Obernitz

Moritz August von Obernitz (born September 14, 1743 in Neidenberga , † September 4, 1823 in Graudenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from the noble family von Obernitz . His father was Heinrich August von Obernitz (1708–1781), Prime Lieutenant in the Guard, Lord of Neidenberga and Grobengereuth , and his wife Christiane Emilie von Obernitz (1711–1781). His father had to sell the Neidenberge manor due to debts in 1757.

Military career

Obernitz was in the service of Württemberg from March 1757 . First as a second lieutenant , later as a prime lieutenant , he took part in the war against Prussia in 1759/63 . During the war, Obernitz came to the life guards on foot at the end of April 1762. He said goodbye on February 20, 1766 and entered Prussian services a few years later on May 2, 1773 . Obernitz was employed as a staff captain in the “von Lengefeld” infantry regiment and in September 1777 captain and company commander . As such, he took part in the battle at Zuckmantel during the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . Obernitz rose within the regiment in the years to come. In 1786 he became a major and in 1793 a lieutenant colonel . In the campaign against Poland in 1794/95 he distinguished himself in the battles in front of Warsaw and on the Rawka and received the order Pour le Mérite for his achievements on June 8, 1794 . Promoted to colonel on January 25, 1795 , Obernitz was appointed commander of the III. ( Musketeer ) battalions in the “von Holwede” infantry regiment . He did not take part in the war against Napoleon in 1806/07 due to health problems, but on January 22nd, 1808 he was appointed head of the disabled company of the "Courbière" infantry regiment .

On December 7, 1808 Obernitz received under presentation of the character as a major general with an annual pension of 600 taler his resignation approved.

family

He married Justine Lucretia Maria von Helden-Gonserowsky (1756-1818) on July 10, 1780 in Loszainen . The following children were born from the marriage:

• Auguste Karoline Luise Friederike (1783–1857) ∞ Gustav von Both , Prussian lieutenant general

• Friederike Henriette Albertine Antoinette (born September 13, 1788 in Mühlhausen) ∞ Wilhelm August von Hegener, Prussian captain
