Geography and geology

Neidenberga is located northwest of Drognitz on a high plateau of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains to the left of the Hohenwartestausee der Saale. Due to the high proportion of fine soil and the high humus content, these usable areas have stable soil fertility. The district is connected to road traffic via the L 2385. The heights to the slopes and the bays are formed around the plateau with forest.

history

The first documentary mention of the Neidenberga district took place on June 24, 1338. Niedenburg Castle on a hill west of the village belonged to the von Watzdorf family around 1335 . In an unknown period the von Obernitz owned Neidenberga. He later acquired the von Brandenstein family , which remained on the Niedenburg and the Neidenberga estate until they were expropriated by the land reform in September 1945.

The place belonged to the electoral office of Ziegenrück until 1815 and after its assignment, decided at the Congress of Vienna , came to the Prussian district of Ziegenrück , to which the place belonged until 1945.

The church , built in 1769, stands on the foundations of a chapel. The village is the smallest place in the municipality.

At the entrance to the village there are three stone crosses under an old linden tree. They say that disputes can also be resolved peacefully.
