The Bovansko Jezero is an artificial reservoir that is also used as a bathing lake in the Zaječar district , which lies between the cities of Aleksinac and Sokobanja in Serbia . The lake has a length of 8 km and a width of 500 m. The deepest point is 50 m deep. The lake is located 20 km from Aleksinac and 10 km from Sokobanja and is on the regional road from Aleksinac via Sokobanja to Knjaževac . The villages of Vrbovac and Trubarevac and the hamlet of Bovan are on the shores of the lake .
In 1978 the lake was created in what was then Yugoslavia to regulate the Morava, as well as damming it and relieving the reservoirs Đerdap I and Đerdap II. The additional water is used to supply water to the cities of Aleksinac (where there is a water collection plant), Sokobanja and Knjaževac also known as the Banja region. In addition, the lake saves many mountain streams from drying out in summer, but it is also fed by the Sokobanjska Moravica .
It is also a local and regional tourist attraction. There are many beaches on the lake. The lake is visited by thousands of bathers, anglers, hikers and campers every year. There are various fish in the lake, e.g. B. carp , pikeperch and catfish , also different bird species nest at the lake. You can go pedal boating on the lake. Lately, sailing regattas have been taking place on the lake, mainly in spring and autumn.
