The Sokobanjska Moravica (also Moravica ) is a right tributary of the Southern Morava (Južna Morava) in the east of Serbia . It is 60.4 km long and has a catchment area of 625 km². It flows through the small town of Aleksinac and the well-known Serbian spa town of Sokobanja , as well as many villages in the region. Right tributaries of the Sokobanjska Moravica are the Seselačka, Blendijska, Izgarska and Trgoviška Reka . The left tributary is the Gradašnica. The Moravica fills the artificial swimming lake Bovansko Jezero , which is located 12 km west of the town of Sokobanja. The lake in turn supplies the water for the region around Aleksinac, Sokobanja and Knjaževac .

After 60 km the Moravica flows into the Južna Morava, which in turn flows into the Morava , which flows into the Danube and thus belongs to the river system of the Danube . The Moravica is popular with the population for swimming. The Sokobanjska Moravica is very popular with anglers due to its rich and large variety of fish species. The barrel of the Moravica is divided into an upper part and a lower part. The top is the run through the mountain ranges of the Banja region around Sokobanja. The lower part is the course of the Sokobanjska Moravica towards the bathing lake Bovansko Jezero and the town of Aleksinac .

Devica and Ozren Mountains

The source of the Moravica is located on the eastern slope of the Devica mountain range, more precisely on the mountain of the same name near the hamlet of Skrobnica , which belongs to the village of Vrelo in the Opština Sokobanja. The spring is located 15 km southeast of Sokobanja, in the direction of Knjaževac. From the village of Vrelo the Moravica flows northwards, but turns to the west towards the village of Levovik , which now belongs to the Opština Sokobanja . And thus reaches the Banja region in the east of Serbia . It now flows between the Devica mountain ranges in the south, the Ozren mountain range in the north and the Rtanj mountain range in the southwest. The Moravica flows through the villages of Čitluk (Sokobanja) , Žučkovac , Blendija , Dugo Polje (where the “Moravica Gorge” is located) and reaches the community center and the center of the Banja region, the spa town of Sokobanja . This ends the upper reaches of the Moravica.

The lake "Bovansko Jezero"

Now the lower reaches of the Moravica begins. After flowing through the villages of Poružnica and Trubarevac , the Sokobanjska Moravica turns to the south, flowing through the western mountains of the Ozren range and the southern mountains of the Bukovik range. In the village of Bovan, the Moravica becomes part of the plan to regulate the Morava , the main river of all of central Serbia. The Moravica feeds the Bovasnko Jezero, an artificial swimming lake rich in fish, which has become a local and regional tourist attraction, which is especially popular with anglers and hikers. Now the Moravica flows south through many forests and smaller gorges, reaches the Opština Aleksinac, flows through the villages Kraljevo and Subotinac and flows into the Južna Morava in Aleksinac. The lower reaches of the Moravica used to be badly affected by coal mining. But the mines around the town of Aleksinački Rudnik are now closed. The Moravica belongs to the river system of the Danube , which flows into the Black Sea , covers 625 km² and is not navigable.
