from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moritz Karl Heinrich Gottfried von Obernitz (born July 22, 1785 in Prussian Holland , † May 4, 1870 in Machnitz ) was a Prussian officer and knight of the order Pour le Mérite and large agrarian .

Life

origin

He came from the original noble family von Obernitz and was part of the Machnitz branch of the Neidenberga line for himself and his descendants . His parents were the later Prussian major general Moritz August von Obernitz (1743-1823) and his wife Justine Lukretia Maria, born von Helden-Gonserowsky (1756-1818).

Military career

Although he was the heir to the extensive family estates, Obernitz first entered the Prussian military service . He became an infantryman in the Courbière regiment and was second lieutenant when the war against France broke out in 1806 . In the war, which was so unfortunate for Prussia, his regiment was one of the defenders of the Danzig Fortress , which, unlike many other Prussian fortresses, did not surrender immediately, but offered fierce resistance. Obernitz and the “Courbiere” regiment stood out particularly in the defensive battles. In the event of a failure on the night of April 29th to April 30th, 1807, the regiment, and with it Obernitz, fought so brilliantly that this was particularly emphasized in a slogan on April 30th. There it says, among other things: ....., parole order of April 30th .... Major vom Kamptz and his column faithfully carried out (this). SE thank him and all the officers who went out under him, the good battalion of Courbiere, ...... Especially if you notice than in this column the king to be particularly recommended for funding: .... the lieutenant of the regiment Obernitz Courbiere .... . A further note on Obernitz states :, ..... distinguished himself by his determination and bravery as well as cold-blooded prudence when he dropped out on the night of April 29th to 30th. Obernitz was one of the officers awarded the Pour le Mérite by the king in early June 1807. Obernitz initially continued to serve in the Prussian Army, but soon retired from active service as a captain .

Civil life

After leaving, he managed his extensive agricultural property. He converted the original estates of his line, Machnitz and Burgwitz into a Fideikommiß , but kept the other estates of Klein-Schwundnig, Bentkau, Maltschawe and the Obernitz suburb, Trebnitz district as unbound property.

family

Obernitz was married twice. First from June 11, 1811 with Beate von Diebitsch (1787–1827). This marriage remained childless. After her death, he married Julie von Keltsch (1800–1842) on June 27, 1830. From this marriage two sons were born.
