Boubacar Boureima (* 1950 in Birni N'Gaouré ) is a Nigerien painter and set designer .

Life

Boubacar Boureima comes from a family of Fulani -Viehzüchtern. In 1967 he began to work as an illustrator and production designer for school television for the state broadcasting company ORTN . Boureima turned autodidact to painting and had 1973 in Niamey his first exhibition as an artist. In 1979 he switched from school television to the national television program of ORTN as a production designer. In the same year he began a one-year study visit to an art school in Cologne . In 1983 he was appointed chief scenery designer at ORTN. Boureima has been President of the Association des Artistes Peintres et Sculpteurs du Niger since 1985 , the union of painters and sculptors in Niger.

Boubacar Boureima is known for his abstract paintings in bright colors. His motifs are reminiscent of weaving and lettrism . His work also includes cartoons for Nigerien television, posters and billboards.

Boureima's commissioned paintings adorn numerous public buildings in his homeland, including the seats of the National Assembly , the Prime Minister , the Foreign and Finance Ministries, Niamey Airport and the West African Central Bank building in Maradi . He has had solo exhibitions at the Center Culturel Franco-Nigérien , the Palais des Congrès and the General Seyni Kountché Stadium in Niamey, among others . Group exhibitions with his participation took place at the Musée d'Orsay , the Nigerien National Museum , the 1994 Francophonie Games and the 1996 Dak'art .
