Bouchon's amaranth ( Amaranthus bouchonii ) is a species of plant from the genus Amaranth ( Amaranthus ) within the foxtail family (Amaranthaceae).

description

Bouchon's amaranth grows as an independently upright, annual herbaceous plant that rarely reaches heights of 10 to, usually 20 to 150 centimeters. All leaves are usually only up to 6 inches long.

The flowering period extends from June to September. The dense inflorescence is often tinged with red. The cover sheet is sub-lanceolate and long awned. The petals are unevenly long, the inner ones are shorter than the fruit.

The nut fruit is longer than the bracts . The fruit shell does not tear open transversely.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.

Occurrence

The original range of Bouchon's amaranth is unknown. It was discovered in Europe in 1925 and has spread there ever since.
