Bowdon (Greater Manchester)
Bowdon is a historic village in the traditional county of Cheshire in Greater Manchester in the UK .
history
Bowdon is first mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book as "Bogedone". The name of the village is derived from the old English Boga-dūn and means " bow village ". Watch Hill Castle was probably built in the late 11th or 12th century , a moth of which only remnants of the rampart remain today.
Between 1849 and 1881 there was a rail link to Manchester.
In 2001, Bowdon had 8,806 residents.
