Twenty20 Cup 2012
The Twenty20 Cup 2012 (known as Friends Life t20 for sponsorship reasons) was the tenth season of the English Twenty20 Championship. The winners were the Hampshire Royals , who beat Yorkshire Carnegie with 10 runs in the final at Sophia Gardens .
format
The 18 first-class counties were divided into three groups of six teams each according to regional criteria. In this group stage, each team in a group played twice against each other. After this, the group winners, runners-up and the two best thirds in the group qualified for the quarter-finals. The semi-finals were then played on one day together with the final, marketed as Finals Day . The format this season was therefore the same as in 2008 and 2009 , which reduced the number of games by 54 compared to the 2011 season , as the teams competed in three, rather than two groups.
