Boy van Poppel (born January 18, 1988 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch cyclocross and road cyclist .

Career

Boy van Poppel became Dutch cyclocross champion in the junior class for the first time in 2005. The next year he was able to defend this title. The following year he became world champion of the juniors in Zeddam. In the 2007/2008 cyclocross season , he won the Azencross U23 event in Wuustwezel-Loenhout and became national U23 champion.

On the road, Boy van Poppel was the Dutch time trial champion in the youth class in 2004 . In 2006 he won a stage at the Driedaagse van Axel and became national runner-up in the junior road race.

In 2011 and 2012 Van Poppel drove for the American team Unitedhealthcare-Maxxis . In the 2013 season, he moved to the UCI ProTeam Vacansoleil-DCM together with his brother . From the 2014 season until the end of the 2018 season, he drove for the WorldTeam Trek Factory Racing without achieving any leading positions.

Boy van Poppel is the son of Jean-Paul van Poppel , who, among other things, won a total of nine stages in the Tour de France . His brother Danny van Poppel , his sister Kim van Poppel and his mother Leontien van der Lienden are also cyclists.
