General
In earlier times there were many mills on both sides of the Saale . Only a few ruins remain from the bridge mill. The fact that the site was a site for a mill can be traced back to 1289.
history
The Podelitz mill was located at the site of the bridge mill in 1289 . This mill was owned by the Archdiocese of Magdeburg before 1289 and came into the possession of the Beuditz Monastery that year . After the Reformation, the mill came into the possession of the Wettins . The bridge mill is said to have been rebuilt shortly before 1551 by the later Elector August of Saxony . In 1592 and 1593 the main building was increased. The rear mill house was demolished and replaced by a new building. After 1875 the bridge mill belonged to the Oscar Dietrichschen paper mills . The mill ditch was filled in in 1970. Until 1992 the buildings of the former paper mill were still used by the grain industry. After several fires broke out on the site, the decision was made to demolish the building in 2008. Only the ruins of the bridge mill have been preserved. Since the area is in the flood area, no new development is planned.
inscription
The coat of arms stone , which is still located above the former portal of the mill, dates from the time of the dukes of Saxony-Weißenfels . Most of the inscription is so badly weathered that it is no longer legible. Only at the bottom right is DCLXXV, which means that the stone is dated to 1675. In a documentation from 1925, however, there are images from 1633, 1650, 1693 and 1871. There, among other things, the coat of arms stone can be recognized and the inscription is legible. It is:
