Bracco is an Italian pharmaceutical and diagnostics company. The subsidiary Bracco Imaging (formerly Dibra ) is a world leader in imaging .

Bracco was founded in 1927 as Italmerck . In 1934 the production of ascorbic acid ( Cebion ) started. After the Second World War, the sulfonamide sulfamethazine ( Diazil ) was produced. The X-ray contrast agent Iopamidol was developed in the 1970s and launched on the market in 1981. In 1994 Squibb Diagnostics was taken over by BMS . In 2001 sulfur hexafluoride was established as ( SonoVue ) ultrasound contrast agent.

In pyrazinamide Bracco the largest producer in the world.

Bracco in Germany

The Bracco Imaging Germany GmbH , headquartered in Konstanz is a production company of the Bracco Group. It specializes in the production of sterile drugs (especially contrast media) and employs around 50 people.

The company was founded in 2011 through a transfer of operations from Nycomed GmbH (formerly Altana Pharma) to Bracco Imaging SpA.
