history

In 1880 mines were opened in Bradford. The place got its name from Jim Justice, a foreman of the mines, based on the city of the same name Bradford in England .

Bradford is about two miles west of Alabama State Route 79 , which connects to Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 to the south . US Highway 31 also runs 10 kilometers west of the town , parallel to Interstate 65 .

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is around 20 kilometers south .
