Brajarajnagar is a city in the east Indian state of Odisha .

The city is located to the west of Odisha in the Jharsuguda district . The river Ib separates the city from the east adjoining district capital Jharsuguda . The reservoir of the Hirakud Dam to the south extends to the city. In the west, Brajarajnagar borders the city of Belpahar .

The national highway NH 200 and the Raigarh –Jharsuguda railway line run through the city.

The history of the city is linked to the establishment of what was then Orient Paper Mills in 1936. There are several coal mines around the city. In 1968 Brajarajnagar became a Notified Area Council , in 1989 a municipality with 23 wards . At the 2011 census, Brajarajnagar had 80,403 inhabitants.
