List of domestic dogs

The Brandlbracke is an Austrian dog breed recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 63 ).

Origin and history

The ancestors of the breed are considered to be the Celtic Hound , which spread across Europe with the migration of peoples . In the Middle Ages there were valley-specific blows of the Alpenbracke across the Alps. Several breeds were bred from this in the 19th century. In 1884 the Brandlbracke was the first to be registered in the Austrian dog breeding book (ÖHZB).

Brief description

The Brandlbracke is closely related to the Tyrolean hound , the Styrian wire- haired hound , the Slovak Kopov , the Bavarian mountain sweat dog . It is a medium-sized hound with a shoulder height of 48 to 56 cm. The Brandlbracke has a strong but elastic body. The chest is broad, rather deep and long, the belly a little tucked up. The head is carried high and usually has strongly developed eyebrows ("Vieräugl"), the hangings (ears) are medium-long, the eyes clear, with a clever expression, mostly brown. The tail is pointing downwards in the passage, upwards in the search. The color of the Brandlbracke is black with a strong, sharply defined, dark brown brand.

use

The Brandlbracke as well as the Styrian Rauhhaarbracke are suitable for work before or after the shot. They are particularly characterized by their calm, extreme willingness to track and track security. Depending on the design, the Brandlbracke is as welding dog , or as a flushing dog used. It hunts noisily and, due to its ability to orient itself, always finds its way back to its guide.
