Branko Vukelić (born January 12, 1958 in Karlovac ; † May 3, 2013 there ) was a Croatian politician ( HDZ ). He was successively Minister of Economy and Defense in the Croatian government .

Life

Vukelić graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Zagreb in 1981 . From 1991 to 1997 he was managing director of the Karlovac branch of the INA mineral oil company .

In his hometown Karlovac he was a member of the city council from 1993, then mayor from 1997 to 2001, and then a member of the city council again. He was Minister of Economy from December 2003 to January 2008 and then Minister of Defense of Croatia until December 2010. Then he was a member of the Sabor , the Croatian parliament.

At the end of February 2013, Vukelić resigned from the HDZ after 22 years of party membership. He criticized the party leadership leading the party in the wrong direction and undermining internal party democracy.

Branko Vukelić died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 55 . He was married and had a son.
