history

Gold Ochsen brewery in Ulm

The name Gold Ochsen has been known in Ulm since 1499. In 1597 the landlord Gabriel Mayer founded the inn, brewery and wine tavern Zum Goldenen Ochsen in Herdbruckerstraße in Ulm's old town near the Danube . Over time, the owners changed frequently.

In 1812 the brewer and guild superior Jakob Wieland bought the brewery. In 1867 his son Philipp Wieland sold it to the Leibinger family , who have owned it ever since. With the move to what was then the northern edge of Ulm below the Michelsberg , a new brewery was moved into on Veitsbrunnenweg. Thanks to the fact that the destruction during the Second World War was hardly significant, this site has been able to be preserved.

After the war, the brewery acquired concessions for PepsiCo products and has also been offering non-alcoholic beverages since then. For this purpose, a separate sales company, Ulmer Getränke Vertrieb GmbH, UGV, was founded in 1960 . Gold Ochsen and UGV now form the largest beverage association in the Danube-Iller region .

In 1991 Ulrike Freund , the daughter of the former managing director August Leibinger , took over the management of the family company in the fifth generation.

The brewery has been operating two bottling plants since 2012, each with a capacity of up to 40,000 bottles per hour.

Others

The Gold Ochsen brewery is also active as an organizer. In cooperation with Stadtwerke Ulm / Neu-Ulm , the “Gold Ochsen Bierbähnle”, an old tram that runs through Ulm on the rail network, can be rented for private purposes.

The company's advertising slogan is "Ulm's Liquid Gold".
