Naming

Auguste Boissonneau first described the brown axilla under the name Quiscalus subalaris . “Macroagelaius” is derived from the Greek words “macros” for “long, large” and “Agelaius” for “blackbird, black bird”. The name of the specific epithet has Boissonneau almost- from the Latin words "sub" for ", rather, something that made" and "alar" axillary for "to the wing troops belonging".
