The Brauneck mountain railway is a gondola lift to the Brauneck in the Bavarian pre-Alps . Because of its proximity (60 km) to Munich and the connection to the Bayerische Oberlandbahn, it opens up a popular skiing, excursion and hiking area and is also often used by paragliders and hang-gliders . It also serves to supply the numerous huts on Brauneck.

Your valley station is near Lenggries at the foot of the Brauneck at an altitude of 720  m above sea level. NHN . It is connected to Lenggries train station all year round by an RVO bus . In winter, a ski bus shuttles between different stops in town and the cable car. Your mountain station is about 35 m below the summit at an altitude of 1520  m . The gondola lift overcomes a difference in altitude of 800 m over a route length of around 2500 m. The travel time is 12 minutes at a speed of 4 m / s (14.4 km / h). The conveying capacity is 800 people per hour. The mountain railway can use 85 cabins for four people. Kites up to 4.20 m in length are transported with special transport gondolas.

From a technical point of view, it is a detachable two-rope circulating ropeway with a 33 mm thick suspension rope and a 29 mm haul rope, which are supported by 10 supports and 2 dome structures. The penultimate pillar in front of the mountain station stands with only one foot on the ground foundation and is anchored in the rock on the side with a horizontal traverse . The greatest distance from the ground is 85 m and the greatest span length is 432 m. The cabins are parked in both the valley and mountain stations.

In 1952, Brauneck Bergbahn GmbH was founded in Lenggries. After a four-year planning phase and 16 months of construction, the cable car supplied by Friedrich Krupp AG was opened for the ski season on November 16, 1957. The valley station was closer to the village at the Gilgenhöfen, so that the gondolas initially floated over the flat meadows at the foot of the mountain. In 1993, today's valley station was built right on the mountain. In the spring of 2000, the old gondolas were replaced by 4-person cabins from CWA, the company that belongs to Doppelmayr . In 2005 a new mountain station with a panorama restaurant was opened. Today the cable car is operated by Brauneck- und Wallbergbahnen GmbH, Lenggries.
