The broad-leaved grape hyacinth ( Muscari latifolium ) is a species of grape hyacinth ( Muscari ) from the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

features

The broad-leaved grape hyacinth is a perennial geophyte that reaches heights of 15 to 40, rarely even 50 centimeters. There are usually one, rarely two leaves . These are 7 to 30 centimeters long and 1 to 3 centimeters wide, upright, frosted and broadly linear to obovate-lanceolate. They are briefly contracted at the top and the tip is often hood-shaped. The stem is longer than the leaves. The inflorescence is a cluster of 2 to 6 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters wide. At the fruit time it is loosened. The fertile flowers are 5 to 6 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide, oblong, jug-shaped and black-violet in color. The perigone lobes are about a millimeter long, pale purple and slightly bent back. The sterile flowers are 4 to 8 millimeters long and colored pale purple or blue.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

This species occurs in southern and western Turkey in sparse pine forests at altitudes of 1100 to 1800 meters.

Occasionally it is used as an ornamental plant in flower borders.
