Location and landscape
The Breitenberg is located on the south bank of Lake Wolfgang , above the Zinkenbach peninsula of the lake opposite Sankt Wolfgang bei Abersee . It is a foothill of the Königsberger Horn ( 1621 m above sea level ) in the Osterhorn group of the Salzkammergut Mountains and the Salzburg Pre-Alps .
To the south and east the mountain is cleared by a deep ditch, in which the Königsbach and then - from the Schreinbachfall - the Zinkenbach flow. To the north runs the Zinkenbach-Nebenbach Steingraben , behind it the Troiferberg ( 883 m above sea level ), the steep face on the lake between Gschwand and Franzosenschanze .
