The Breitenberg is a 1260  m above sea level. A. high peak near Sankt Gilgen in the Salzburger Salzkammergut .

Location and landscape

The Breitenberg is located on the south bank of Lake Wolfgang , above the Zinkenbach peninsula of the lake opposite Sankt Wolfgang bei Abersee . It is a foothill of the Königsberger Horn  ( 1621  m above sea level ) in the Osterhorn group of the Salzkammergut Mountains and the Salzburg Pre-Alps .

To the south and east the mountain is cleared by a deep ditch, in which the Königsbach and then - from the Schreinbachfall - the Zinkenbach flow. To the north runs the Zinkenbach-Nebenbach Steingraben , behind it the Troiferberg ( 883  m above sea level ), the steep face on the lake between Gschwand and Franzosenschanze . Immediately at its confluence with the Zinkenbach, it also breaks through into the valley floor. Is to Königsberg Horn east of Konigsberg forest with some peaks at 1250- 1350  m , On this the Gschaidgraben forms (for Steingraben) the limit, the dip is Ebenwald and is located at about 1200  m above sea level. A. The Breitenberg is not forested and forms the Breitenbergalm in the summit area .

To the northwest is the Zwölferhorn  ( 1521  m above sea level ) with its southern secondary peak, the Illingerberg ( 1479  m above sea level ). The ridge runs southwest from the Königsberger Horn to the Holzeck  ( 1603  m above sea level ). To the south rise the Hoher Zinken  ( 1764  m above sea level ), Osterhorn  ( 1746  m above sea level ) and the Wieslerhorn  ( 1603  m above sea level ), with the Postalm region behind. To the southwest is the Bleckwand  ( 1541  m above sea level ) in front of the Sparber  ( 1504  m above sea level ). To the northeast, the Schafberg  ( 1762  m above sea level ) rises above the Wolfgang valley .

The mountain is easy to climb from Abersee on the Breitenbergalm supply route. There is also a path from the Zinkenbachtal via Adamalm - Primushöllrinn - Zinkenbachhöllrinn. A forest path also leads to the Königsbergalm on the Königsberghorn
