Location and landscape
The mountain rises in the main ridge of the Osterhorn group, between Sankt Gilgen and Strobl on Wolfgangsee in the north and Abtenau in Lammertal in the south, whereby the summit lies entirely in the Abtenau municipality, the Strobl border passes a little below along a Jägersteig.
The top of the mountain is relatively rocky, but still overgrown with trees. From the highest point there is a panorama over the central Osterhorn group and to the Schafberg opposite the lake. In addition, if the conditions are good, the Dachstein can also be seen in the far south.
The Natura 2000 area Zinkenbach-Karlgraben lies in the headwaters of the Königsbach in the north-western flank of the mountain .
Climbs
A common tour starts at the Leit'n Alm near Hintersee - Lämmerbach or the Abtenauer Genneralm, which are located to the west of the Hohen Zinkens. From there, you first pass the neighboring Posch'n Hut and take a stony path to a hill that belongs to the Holzeck ( 1603 m above sea level ). Then you come to a saddle that is located between the Königsbach and Ackersbachtal valleys . After the branching off path no. 840 you finally reach the summit. The walking time here is about three hours.
More paths lead from Abersee the Zinkenbach along, and then either the king along creek over the Königsbacher Alm in the aforementioned saddle, or in cry Bach case up to the Zinkeneckalm and the north ridge of the high teeth (Zinkeneck - Saurücken) along over the top of the near Oster horn ( 1748 m above sea level ) northeast.
In the saddle between Hohem Zinken and Osterhorn, the path branches off over the Goldene Schüsserl to the Pitscherberg ( 1720 m above sea level ) to the east, which continues into the Postalm area.
The Hohe Zinken is also a very popular and rather easy ski tour. The ascent leads from Lämmerbach over the Genneralm to the summit.
