The Holzeck is 1603  m above sea level. A. high summit of the Osterhorn group in the province of Salzburg .

Location and landscape

The Holzeck is located between Wolfgangsee in the Salzburger Salzkammergut north and Lammertal south, on the main ridge of the Osterhorn group. It rises between the Hinterseer village of Lämmerbach , the Königsbachtal - the upper reaches of the Zinkenbach near Abersee , municipality of Sankt Gilgen - and the Abtenau village of Wegscheid (cadastral municipality of Rigaus ).

The mountain is a southern side mountain of the Königberger Horn  ( 1621  m above sea level ), with which it is connected via the ridge of the high throne  ( 1574  m above sea level ). To the east rise the Hohe Zinken  ( 1764  m above sea level ) and the Osterhorn  ( 1746  m above sea level ), to the west after the saddle the Genneralm Gennerhorn  ( 1735  m above sea level ) and Gruberhorn  ( 1732  m above sea level). ).

To the northwest, the Gennerbach goes over the Hinterseer Taugl and the Almbach (Oberalm) to the Salzach . The Ackersbach goes south over the Weitenauer Aubach to the Lammer and Salzach. The Königsbach goes northeast to the Wolfgangsee, and over the Ischl [er Ache] to the Traun .

The mountain forms the border between Hintersee, Sankt Gilgen (both Salzburg-Umgebung district ) and Abtenau ( Hallein district ).

The mountain can be reached from the Leit'n Alm near Hintersee-Lämmerbach or the Abtenauer Genneralm on a short ascent. From Abersee the path leads via Zinkenbach and Königsbacher Alm. The path via Hochthron - Königbergerhorn to Königbergeralm is part of the Arnoweg , and then leads to Sankt Gilgen, in the other direction to Abtenau.
