The Almbach , officially Oberalm , is the natural runoff of the Hintersee in the northeast of the state of Salzburg . It reaches a length of approx. 17 km and flows into the Salzach in Hallein , the tributary called the Kleine Salzach near the Pernerinsel . The brook is used economically to generate energy. The historical name Obere Albe is related to the name of the municipality of Oberalm (compare also Niedere Albe for Königsseeache and reference to Niederalm in the municipality of Anif ).

course

The Felsenbad , a natural rock formation of pools and holes, which is used as a wild bathing area, is located on the upper reaches . Then there is a gorge , the Strubklamm near Werkschulheim Felbertal , at the upper end of which there is an old dam from the former Strubklamm power plant , whose lake, the Strubklamm reservoir below Faistenau , has largely silted up.

The middle course is in the Wiestal . Here the stream to the Wiestalstausee is dammed; a residual amount of water remains in order not to endanger the fish population of the stream. This is followed by the Wiestalklamm , which is designated as a natural monument ( NDM00126 ).

The Wiestal power plant with the Wiestal reservoir and the Strubklamm power plant with the Strubklamm reservoir , Strüblweiher and Hintersee together form the Wiestal-Strubklamm storage power plant group of Salzburg AG .

Adnet and Oberalm as well as the Hallein districts of Adneter Riedl and Gries are located on the lower reaches .

The source stream of the Almbach is the (Hinterseer) Taugl to the Hintersee. Tributaries are the Mörtlbach from Krispl , the Weißbach from Hinterwinkl / Schwaitl -Alm, the Schwarzaubach (Ebenaubach) from Ebenau (there with Ellmaubach from the Ellmau , Rettenbach from the Hinterschroffenau with natural monuments Klamm and Plötz and Meierhofbach with the Ebenauer Mühlenweg) and the Angerbach from Wieserhörndl .
