Postalm

The Postalm is an alpine pasture area in the municipality of Strobl in the state of Salzburg . With 42 square kilometers, it is the largest alpine pasture area in Austria.

The high plateau has an average height of over 1300  m .

Both from Lammertal near Abtenau in the south and from Strobl on Wolfgangsee in the north, toll roads lead to the Alm (Postalmstrasse) . The highest point of this connection is the Lienbachsattel at 1304  m above sea level. A. There is also a Postbus connection on this line.

The area is also designated as a landscape protection area ( LSG38 ; 1406.99 ha, in Strobl and Abtenau).

In winter the Alm is used as a ski area, in summer there are hiking trails (for example an alpine flower path) available. Also mountain biking is a popular activity in the warm season. On the northern edge of the Postalm you can see the Wolfgangsee and Schafberg. 2000 animals graze on the alpine pasture that was established 300 years ago.

The name of the alpine pasture area goes back to the post horses from Ischl ( Hotel Post ) that have been driven to the Tillalm or Holzalm since 1862 .
