Brenner Railway Company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brenner Eisenbahn GmbH (BEG) was a company to build the northern access route for the Brenner Base Tunnel .

history

The company was founded in 1996 as a state company of the Republic of Austria on the basis of a federal law; As of January 1, 2005, it was a wholly owned subsidiary of ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau-AG and thus embedded in the ÖBB Group. After the merger of ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau AG and ÖBB-Infrastruktur Betrieb-AG to form ÖBB Infrastruktur AG , the company was briefly a subsidiary of Infrastruktur AG before it was fully integrated into it on October 1, 2009 as of January 1, 2009.

The company was based in Innsbruck and the project management was in Vomp, near Schwaz . The 20 positions in Innsbruck and the 70 in Vomp will be retained.

The company is responsible for the entire construction process, from financing through planning procedures to construction. The primary goal of this client is the construction of the north access route for the Brenner Base Tunnel ( Lower Inn Valley Railway ). The project area is divided into two sections as described below.

Section 1: (Wörgl Hbf -) Kundl / Radfeld - Baumkirchen

In the first section, construction work began in 2006. This 42 km section is currently divided into 10 construction lots. The total investment volume will amount to around EUR 1.9 billion. Around 80% of the total length runs underground. A wide variety of construction methods are used, including a .: Blasting , tunnel boring machine ( TBM ), DSV process , top-cover construction , special construction with compressed air and open construction .
The individual main construction lots are divided into:

  • Main construction lot H1: Radfeld
  • Main construction lot H2-2: Radfeld Mitte
  • Main construction lot H2-1: Radfeld-Brixlegg (completed in February 2007)
  • Main construction lot H3-4: Münster-Wiesing
  • Main construction lot H3-6: Tiergarten tunnel
  • Main construction lot H8: Jenbach
  • Main construction lot H4-3: Stans
  • Main construction lot H5: Vomp-Terfens
  • Main construction lot H6: Galerie Terfens (completed in July 2007)
  • Main construction lot H7: Fritzens-Baumkirchen

The 40 km long new railway line should be ready by the 2012 timetable change.

Section 2: State border / Kufstein - Schaftenau - Kundl / Radfeld

The second section is currently in the planning phase (phase 1). The study area extends to Oberaudorf or Brannenburg in Bavaria. The in-depth examination of two route studies is currently being carried out. After the test has been completed and the route has been determined, the tendering phase takes place (phase 2). The bypass of Wörgl in particular encounters major problems due to the extremely difficult geology of the "Angerberg".

This section will be completed well after the commissioning of the 1st section. Baumkirchen - Radfeld is to go into operation in 2012, Radfeld - Brannenburg not until 2015. That is why the Radfeld - Wörgl section will be continuously expanded to three tracks by 2012. The section Wörgl Kundl - Wörgl Terminal South already has three tracks , Wörgl Terminal South - Wörgl Central Station has four tracks. The three-track section Wörgl Radfeld - Wörgl Kundl will be vssl. be completed by 2011.

The Wörgler Hbf is fully connected to the new line on two sides, namely through the connection points Wörgl Radfeld in the west and Wörgl Schaftenau in the east, because Wörgl is a railway junction and the largest train station, including the traction site and workshops, on the new line, and because the Giselabahn from Salzburg to Graz and Klagenfurt joins the Lower Inn Valley Railway here.
