Brian Bagnall (born April 4, 1943 in Wakefield , England ; † May 16, 2020 in Munich ) was a British painter , draftsman and book illustrator living in Germany .

Life

As early as 1958 he attended the Wakefield Technical and Art College and took part in a group exhibition in 1962. From 1963 to 1965 he studied at the College of Art in Kingston upon Hull and graduated with honors.

After teaching in London , he worked for several years at a large distance learning school art in Amsterdam , in 1970 he made in Munich with his wife Ursula (Uschi), daughter of Ellis Kaut , independently . In 1972 they both founded the Bagnall Studios, and he brought out his first picture book at Thienemann . By 2007 over sixty self-developed books had been published.

From 1981 to 1984 he was a visiting lecturer at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . He has had international exhibitions throughout, including in Amsterdam , Seoul , Barcelona and repeatedly in Munich . From 1996 he gave drawing courses in Liguria every year , and since 2006 life drawing at the Free Art Workshop in Munich.

Together with his wife Ursula, he designed a number of children's books as well as numerous books on hobby painting. Brian Bagnall wrote the cover illustrations for the German editions of Tom Sharpe's novels .
