Brian Jones (aviation pioneer)
Brian Jones (born March 27, 1947 in Bristol ) is a British aviation pioneer. In 1999, he and the Swiss Bertrand Piccard became the first person to circumnavigate the world in a Rozière .
The first non-stop circumnavigation of the world in a balloon
On board the Breitling Orbiter 3, a high-tech Rozier balloon equipped like a satellite, the first circumnavigation of the world without stopping began on March 1, 1999 at 8:05 a.m. GMT in Château-d'Oex, Switzerland, and ended successfully on March 21, 1999 at 5:52 a.m. GMT in Dakhla ( Egypt ). The journey time for the 45,755 km route was 19 days, 21 hours and 47 minutes. The Orbiter's capsule has been on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC since 2000 .
He is a sponsor of the Winds of Hope Foundation .
