Brian Tinnion (born February 23, 1968 in Stanley ) is a former English football player and current coach .
Player career
Discovered by the scouts of Newcastle United , Brian Tinnion was one of their youth teams and celebrated with his team (including Paul Gascoigne ) winning the FA Youth Cup in 1985 . A few days after his 18th birthday, he signed his first professional contract with the Magpies . In his first full season 1987/88, the left midfielder had already played 30 league games. He then received a call to the England U-21 national team from then coach Dave Sexton . Due to an injury, however, Tinnion had to be removed from the squad again and could not take part in the tournament in Toulon . In 1989 he moved to Bradford City , but had to relegate to the third division with the club after just one season. Two years later, the midfielder celebrated the resurgence with Bradford. At that time he was considered one of the best left-footed players in the lower leagues. But before the eyes of many scouts from top English clubs, he was seriously injured and maneuvered himself from their watch list.
Before the end of the season, Brian Tinnion moved to the second division club Bristol City in March 1993 . There he completed 360 league games in the following 12 years and experienced two relegations to the third division and one promotion. In 2000 he was voted the best player in the league. After his engagement as coach of Bristol, he trained first at Cheltenham Town in 2005 and then went to the Conference National club Aldershot Town. In the meantime he played at Weston-super-Mare and from January 2007 until the end of the season with the football team of the University of Bath in the seventh division. After the season he finally ended his career at the age of 39.
Coaching career
In 2004, Brian Tinnion took over as player-manager of his team in Bristol. During the current season he hung up his soccer shoes to concentrate on his work as a coach. In the end it should be enough for a seventh place in the table. After a bad start and a 7-1 loss to Swansea City , Tinnion resigned on September 11, 2005.
After the end of his career he opened a football school in Bristol, where he now trains young talent.
