from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brian Vad Mathiesen (born October 10, 1978 ) is a Danish engineering scientist and professor at Aalborg University . He is listed by Thomson Reuters as a Highly Cited Researcher in the engineering category, which makes him one of the most important scientists in the world in his field .

academic career

Mathiesen studied environmental management at the University of Aalborg and graduated in 2003 with a Master of Engineering . From 2004–2005 he worked as an energy and environmental planner in business and then returned to Aalborg University for a doctoral degree , which he successfully completed in 2008 with a thesis on fuel cells and electrolysers in future energy systems . In 2006 he was also a visiting scientist at the Risø DTU research center, where he took part in a research program on solid oxide fuel cells .

In the same year he became assistant professor for energy planning in Aalborg, in 2009 and 2010 he was also visiting professor and researcher at the University of Zagreb . 2010 became Associate Professor at Aalborg University. Since 2014 he has been a full professor for energy planning in 100% renewable energy systems.

Research activity

Mathiesen's research focus is on the development, planning and analysis of fully regenerative energy systems . He researches the switch from fossil to renewable energies ( energy transition ) and in particular the large-scale integration of variable renewable energies such as B. the wind energy and investigated u. a. With the help of feasibility studies, the technical feasibility of energy systems whose primary energy comes exclusively from renewable sources.

Mathiesen is a member of the editorial board of the journals Journal of Energy Storage and International Journal of Sustainable Energy Planning and Management and has been guest editor of special editions in Energy and Applied Energy on several occasions .
