Career

He began his career in 1997, after graduating from the Parsons School of Design with a bachelor's degree in illustration , with the five-part mini-series Channel Zero , which formed part of his thesis. Channel Zero was published by Image Comics .

In the following years, Wood worked as a designer for various Internet companies.

Wood did not pursue his comic book career until 2000 when he was offered a co-author on Generation X from Marvel publishers by Warren Ellis , who was the plot master of the series at the time. In the following years Wood worked on 13 issues of the series (numbers 63 - 75) with five issues (numbers 71 - 75) he acted as lead author. The series was due to restructuring of the X-Men - franchises set.

Between 2001 and 2003, Wood freelanced a number of creator-owned comics and graphic novels for various publishing companies, including The Couriers for AIT and Fight For Tomorrow for Vertigo . During this time he also worked as Art Director for AIT for six months , during which he was responsible for the design of the company logo and branding as well as for the cover design of several publications.

During this time he also created the covers for 14 issues of the Wildstorm series Global Frequency on behalf of Warren Ellis . 2003 also saw the emergence of the twelve-part miniseries Demo , which not only earned Wood the praise of critics and two nominations for the Eisner Award , but also achieved commercial success. In addition, Demo increased its popularity in non-English speaking countries.

Due to the success of Demo , Wood decided in 2005 to base his new series Local on the previous work. Local was also set up for twelve issues. The concept differs in that the series has a female main character, whose development is followed in the course of the series, but who does not act as a protagonist in every issue. In contrast, each issue of demo a completed history. Wood worked at Local with cartoonist Ryan Kelly together and not, as in demo with Becky Cloonan . Local was published by Oni Press .

Also in 2005 he began work on the series DMZ , which he and Riccardo Burchielli had devised , which Vertigo has published since June 2006 and which has increased its popularity. Since 2007 he has also been working on the Northlanders series , published by Vertigo since 2008 , a concept that he also came up with. Brian Wood was under an exclusive contract with Vertigo from 2006 to 2010, which allowed him to also work for other clients.
