BricsCAD is a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software application that has been around since 2002. BricsCAD in its editions can be used for two-dimensional construction drawings, three-dimensional construction models , parameter-based modeling , deep-drawing modeling and building data modeling (BIM). All BricsCAD editions are based on the Teigha platform of the Open Design Alliance and therefore that of AutoCAD native .dwg write format natively and read. The success of the program family is based on this. In 2003, BricsCAD, together with AutoCAD LT and DraftSight, was one of the widespread AutoCAD clones in the low-price segment.

BricsCAD is developed by Bricsys NV, headquartered in Ghent , Belgium . The company was founded in 2002 by Erik de Keyser. In 2011, Bricsys acquired the intellectual property rights from Ledas for constraints-based parametric design tools that enable the development of applications in the areas of direct modeling and assembly design. Bricsys operates development centers in Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk , Bucharest and Singapore . Bricsys is a founding member of the Open Design Alliance .

Products

The BricsCAD software, which is available for the Windows , Linux and macOS operating systems , is available in three editions:

  • BricsCAD Classic offers familiar 2D CAD drawing capabilities, native DWG read / write, and includes a full LISP API for customizing and automating repetitive tasks.
  • BricsCAD Pro includes all of the functionality of BricsCAD Classic plus offers 3D direct modeling, 2D and 3D hardware libraries, high definition renderings, a render material library, mechanical assembly display and an AutoCAD ObjectARX compatible development system that supports hundreds of third party application programs.
  • BricsCAD Platinum contains the functions of BricsCAD Pro and includes the creation of 3D constraint systems, the creation and shaping of surface entities, deformable modeling, healing of faulty geometry during import, automatic detection of design intentions, creation and editing of assemblies. BricsCAD Platinum is also the platform for add-on applications for BIM and mechanical product design.

Two more editions of BricsCAD were released in late 2018. Before V19, the BricsCAD BIM product was shipped as a module called "BIM for BricsCAD", which was installed under a license from BricsCAD Platinum. BricsCAD Mechanical is a new product for V19. It contains advanced functions from the "Sheet Metal for BricsCAD" module prior to V19 and additional tools for modeling assemblies, kinematic animations, parts lists and exploded views.

  • BricsCAD BIM is a building information modeling program based on the industry standard .dwg file format. The core database scheme uses the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and is certified by BuildingSMART International according to openBIM "CV2.0-Arch IFC Export and Import". All building elements - walls, floors, columns, French doors, etc. - are classified automatically. Automatically generated 2D sections show all building details - everything is synchronized with the final design document.
  • BricsCAD Mechanical , is a 3D tool for mechanical design with the possibility of assembly modeling. It is based on the idea of ​​history-free direct modeling. The program creates sheet metal part features with the help of transition surfaces. This approach was taken to avoid damaging edges when creating, modifying, and deleting model features. New in BricsCAD Mechanical V19 is the ability to work on both the folded and expanded representation of a single sheet metal part at the same time.

All BricsCAD editions use the Open Design Alliance Drawing API software development platform, which enables BricsCAD to read and write in the .dwg format, which was popularized by Autodesk's AutoCAD . was made popular. BricsCAD V19 reads and writes natively in the 2018 .dwg file format, if necessary down to AutoCAD Release 12. The software is able to execute almost all modern AutoCAD functions. BricsCAD is currently available in 18 language versions.

Communicator for BricsCAD

Communicator for BricsCAD imports and exports 3D CAD data to allow data exchange with most mechanical CAD programs (e.g. CATIA , Creo Elements / Direct Modeling , Solid Edge , NX (Siemens) , SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor ) and various neutral file formats enable. BricsCAD Communicator is a separate software download from the core BricsCAD product and is activated by purchasing a license activation key.

BricsCAD Shape

In January 2018, Bricsys released a free drafting and modeling tool called BricsCAD Shape, derived from BricsCAD Platinum, which provides architects and designers with a modeling environment for conceptualizing buildings and structures. The way Shape works is designed to create CAD-accurate, unique solid models without the user having to classify building elements. BricsCAD Shape's geometry domain is the same as that of BricsCAD BIM, and the native file format of both products is 2018.dwg. 3D concept models created in BricsCAD Shape can be opened and reused with BricsCAD BIM - for the automatic classification of building elements and their spatial location. BricsCAD Shape has a simplified user interface that keeps command options to a minimum to support effective solid modeling. BricsCAD Shape also includes a library of parametric windows and doors, material libraries, and a selection of 3D furniture and objects.

Bricsys 24/7

Bricsys also offers a SaaS (software as a service) cloud collaboration tool called Bricsys 24/7.

  • Bricsys 24/7 is designed to help teams collaborate on construction projects. Share any file or document with role-based permissions and built-in browser-based viewing. Bricsys 24/7 can display over 70 file types including 2D and 3D CAD models. Explore, comment and share 3D models interactively. An integrated messaging system, team calendar and project address books provide your team with a single platform for all project communication. The main goal of Bricsys 24/7 is to provide a cloud-based place to collect, manage and share BIM data and to be available 24 hours 7 days a week. In building data modeling jargon (BIM), this is called the Common Data Environment (CDE).

APIs and customizations

BricsCAD implements many AutoCAD application programming interfaces (APIs). In general, BricsCAD offers a nearly identical subset of AutoCAD-equivalent function names. In the case of uncompiled AutoCAD applications (e.g. LISP, Diesel and DCL), these programs can be loaded and executed directly in BricsCAD. Especially with regard to LISP routines, BricsCAD supports AutoCAD Vl, Vlr, Vla and Vlax functions. Bricsys also supports developers who want to use LISP encryption, but as expected, BricsCAD cannot read AutoCAD FAS (compiled LISP) files.

Most compiled application programs designed for AutoCAD's Advanced Runtime eXtension (ObjectARX) only require recompilation with the BricsCAD Runtime eXtension (BRX) libraries. BRX is 100% compatible with AutoCAD ARX. Bricsys also supports the legacy Autodesk Development System (ADS) via BricsCAD's (also legacy) SDS interface.

Bricsys focuses on the development of the central CAD software platform and works with application development partners to bring solutions to the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction), GIS and mechanical CAD markets.

LEDAS is part of the BricsCAD ecosystem and is involved in the development of special modules for this software (including geometry comparison functions), the resale of the LGS 2D and 3D geometric solvers, and the satisfaction of custom functional requirements of corporate BricsCAD users. LGS 2D and 3D are components within BricsCAD that perform parametric drawing / sketching in 2D, 3D sketching, surface design, 3D direct modeling, 3D feature modeling, 3D assembly design, 3D kinematics analysis and motion simulation, knowledge-based engineering and product optimization and much more. Bricsys now offers the licensing and embedding of LGS 2D and LGS 3D in any end-user software. The list of licensees includes ASCON (CAD), Cimatron (CAD / CAM).

MERViSOFT has been the German representative of Bricsys since 2008 and takes care of Bricscad's entire trade in Germany and Switzerland.
