The Commandement du renseignement - reconnaissance command (until 2016 Brigade de renseignement - BR or BRENS ; German reconnaissance brigade ) is the central reconnaissance unit of the French land forces.

It was set up in 1993 under the name "Brigade de renseignement et de guerre electronique" (BRGE), and then in 1998 it was renamed "Brigade de renseignement". She was stationed in Metz until 2010 and then moved to Hagenau in Alsace. The total strength amounts to 4200 military personnel.

During the reorganization of the land forces in 2016, the unit was renamed “Commandement du renseignement”. The headquarters are in Strasbourg .

composition

  • 44 e régiment de transmissions (44 e RT - 44th telecommunications regiment ) in Mutzig
  • 54 e régiment de transmissions (54 e RT - 54th telecommunications regiment ) in Haguenau
  • 61 e régiment d'artillerie (61 e RA - 61st Artillery Regiment - Drone Regiment) in Chaumont
  • 2 e régiment de hussards (2 e RH - 2nd hussar regiment) in Haguenau
  • 28 e groupe géographique (28 e GG - 28th Geography Battalion) in Haguenau
  • Groupement de recueil de l'information (GRI - Information Evaluation and Collection Group) - incorporated into the 2nd Hussar Regiment in 2010.

The 13th e régiment de dragons parachutistes belonged to the brigade until 2002, when it switched to the brigade des forces spéciales terre (BFST).

Each of the units is part of the brigade's overall reconnaissance concept. The 44th Telecommunications Regiment and the 54th Telecommunications Regiment are electronic warfare units , the 61st Artillery Regiment is responsible for the use of drones for battlefield reconnaissance, the 2nd Hussar Regiment is the armored reconnaissance unit (RBRR), the air reconnaissance group (Groupement Aérien de Reconnaissance - GAR ) is equipped with helicopters for air reconnaissance, and the (Groupement de Recueil de l'Information (GRI) collects information, e.g. from the population of the crisis area or through the interrogation of prisoners of war.

By combining the resources available, all possible information about the individual goals is provided. The information is collected by the departments and then passed on to the higher level, where the evaluation takes place. This is done to rule out misinterpretations on the tactical level.

The brigade conducts the "BATRENS" exercise annually, which is held to improve cooperation between the individual units.

The brigade staff, the "28 e groupement geographique" and the "Groupement de Recueil de l'Information" moved into their quarters in the Camp d'Oberhoffen in Hagenau in 2010, where the 54th telecommunications regiment and the 2nd hussar regiment were already stationed. In the 11 e brigade parachutiste (11th parachute brigade), the reconnaissance is carried out by the 3 e escadron des 1 er régiment de hussards parachutistes (1st hussar parachute regiment).
