Brigitte Knopf (born August 28, 1973 in Bonn ) is a climate scientist . She has been Secretary General of the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change since February 2015 and a member of the Expert Council on Climate Issues since August 2020 .

Knopf has a doctorate in physics .

Act

Button last deals u. a. with the implementation of the Paris Agreement . She is also concerned with CO 2 pricing and how this can serve to protect the climate and finance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis , Knopf advocates pricing for CO 2 emissions . She calls for a sustainable financial reform in Germany and on an international level: "In addition to the reduction of fossil subsidies, such a reform must include an effective CO 2 price." She argues that the income from the CO 2 price is used to lower other taxes could become.

Knopf was one of the authors of the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC (2014). She was also one of the authors of the Emissions Gap Report 2018.
