The Brinker Hafen is an inland port on the Mittelland Canal in Hanover , Lower Saxony . It is located at canal kilometer 161.1 north in the districts of Brink-Hafen and Vinnhorst at an altitude of 50.3  m above sea level. NN .

history

The port was laid out from 1912 as part of the construction of the Mittelland Canal and put into operation in 1916. The port facility belonged to the then still independent municipality of Brink, which in 1938 formed the municipality of Langenhagen together with the municipalities of Langenforth and Langenhagen. The port was operated by a private company. Until the port area was incorporated into the city of Hanover in 1974, the Brinker Hafen and the Mittelland Canal were located over a distance of 700 m in the area of ​​the city of Langenhagen .

Infrastructure

Brinker Hafengesellschaft mbH is today (2019) a subsidiary of Hafen Hannover GmbH and provides services for businesses around the port in the areas of recycling, aluminum smelting and steel trading.

30 companies are located in the port area. The goods handled are mainly steel, recyclable materials for the aluminum industry and scrap. The port area covers 19  hectares , two wheeled excavators are available on the 350 m long quays . In 2013, 73,794 t of goods were handled on 139 ships (2008: 72,987 t on 181 ships).

In 2013, 205,473 t of goods were transshipped on 3,234 wagons there (2008: 242,903 t to 3,946 wagons).

The port railway is connected to the rail network of the Deutsche Bundesbahn via a pull-out track at Vinnhorst station. The tracks of the port railway are over 17 km long and run in two trains to the northern pier and single-track to the southern pier of the port. A locomotive from the Second World War has been preserved there as a publicly accessible exhibit. This stood at the beginning of the street Am Brinker Hafen until the end of 2017 and was the locomotive number "2371" manufactured in 1942 by the Ruhrthaler Maschinen-Fabrik Schwarz & Dykerhoff KG .
