The British Berna Motor Lorries, Ltd. was a British commercial vehicle manufacturer .

Swiss Berna trucks and buses have been sold in the UK since 1906. The first sales organization was Straker and MacConnell , reorganized in the same year as Straker and MacConnell (1906) Ltd located at 44, Pall Mall , London W. The company also represented the Italian brands Rapid (automobiles) and Bianchi (bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles ) and the French manufacturer Lacoste & Battmann ( Voiturettes ). There was no relation to Straker Squire .

British Berna Motor Lorries, Ltd. was founded in 1913 as a subsidiary of Henry Watson & Sons , Newcastle upon Tyne . This parent company, a metal foundry, has manufactured machinery, marine equipment (water filters), pumps, valves and other industrial products since the 1840s.

Buyer for British Berna trucks with 2½ and 5 shillings. tn. The payload was also the British Army , which deployed around 300 British Berna in addition to 591 Berna from Olten ( Aargau , Switzerland ) during the First World War . After the war, British 3½ and 4½ ton trucks were available for a short time.

In general, 1917 or 1918 are mentioned for the end of production. However, this only seems to apply to the production facility in Kensington; British Berna are documented until 1920. They were advertised jointly with the Swiss Berna, which suggests that Henry Watson & Sons also held the import of the Swiss truck. An exact date could not be determined when the British Berna stopped production . Probably it was simply abandoned in favor of the Watson truck, which is documented from 1918 and for which new facilities were built in Guildford after the end of the war . Watson Lorries were produced until the late 1920s. From 1922 a truck with a 6 tn payload and a 6.5 liter engine was the heaviest model on offer.
