British League Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British League Cup was a football tournament held in Glasgow in 1902 between the top two of the (English) Football League and the Scottish Football League . The competition was held in favor of the survivors of the Ibrox disaster , in which 25 people were killed in April 1902. The Glasgow Rangers made the trophy they had won at the Glasgow International Exhibition Cup a year earlier available as a tournament prize. AFC Sunderland and Everton FC participated from England , the Scottish representatives were the two clubs Celtic and Rangers. Celtic won the final with three goals from Jimmy Quinn 3-2 after extra time against the Rangers and thus returned the favor for the previous year's defeat in the Exhibition Cup. The trophy is still in the Celts trophy cabinet to this day .
