The class 117 of the British Railways was a three-piece railcars series. The vehicles were manufactured by Pressed Steel from 1959 to 1961 .

history

Most of the vehicles were in service in Southall , Cardiff and Plymouth . In the 1980s, some vehicles were relocated to Birmingham and Scotland and renovated for them. Later the vehicles stationed in Scotland, Wales , Cornwall and Birmingham came to Provincial Services, later Regional Railways , while the railcars used in Southall came to Network SouthEast .

In the early 1990s, the vehicles on the London Paddington lines were replaced by class 165 multiple units (“Network Turbo”). They drove in the west of England until they were replaced by the 150 and 153 series multiple units. The attempt to replace it in Cornwall with a class 142 multiple unit (“Skipper / Pacer”) failed because the multiple unit series was unsuitable for these routes, so that it was subject to very high wear there. These railcars then came to the north of England. Ultimately, the 117s in Cornwall were replaced by Class 150 and Class 153 multiple units, which became vacant in other areas.

The 117er drove in Scotland until the turn of the century until their series-156 - and series-170 railcars ( "Turbo Star") nachfolgten.

For many years the 117s were in use on the Birmingham Cross-City Line together with the 115 , 116 , 118 and 121 series . All 117 railcars were taken out of service by 1995.

In 2000, the 117 series were replaced by the 150 series railcars at Silverlink , so all vehicles in this series were taken out of service.
