Britt Lomond

Britt Lomond (born April 12, 1925 in Chicago , Illinois as Glase Britt Lohmann , † March 22, 2006 in Huntington Beach , California ) was an American actor and television producer.

Life

Lomond was born in Chicago and grew up in New York. During the Second World War he served as a paratrooper in the Pacific, where he was awarded the Purple Heart three times, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star in recognition of his outstanding achievements . He later served in the Korean War .

After the war, he attended New York University (NYU), where he joined the fencing team. As an experienced fencer, he qualified for the 1952 Olympic Games, in which, however, he was unable to take part due to his beginning professional fencing work in films.

He was married for 48 years to Diane Lomond, with whom he has two sons, D. Glase and Evan.

Lomond died after a long illness of kidney failure in Huntington Beach, California.

Act

Lomond was active as an actor from 1956 to 1983 and played in many well-known TV series, especially in the fifties and sixties. His best known role is that of Captain Monastario in the first season of Disney's Zorro , which was produced between 1957 and 1958. Here, in particular, he was able to skillfully showcase his strong fencing skills.

His other roles at Disney included the role of General George Armstrong Custer in the 1958 film They called him Komantsche and that of Captain Paco Reyes in The Saga of Andy Burnett .

After his film career, he began working behind the camera as a TV producer and assistant director, including as production manager for the TV series The Waltons and Falcon Crest as well as for the 1980 film Ein tödlicher Traum und Midnight Run - 5 days to midnight active from 1988. As first assistant director he worked for the TV series Kampfstern Galactica and MacGyver . In these functions he was also responsible for various TV shows in the seventies and eighties.

In the later years he penned his memoirs and published them in the book Chasing after Zorro in 1984 .
