Britta North

Britta Nord (* 1969 in Heidelberg ) is a German translation scholar . Among other things, she teaches at the International University of the Languages ​​& Interpreters Institute in Munich and works as a freelance translator , translation reviewer, lexicographer and editor .

Life and academic career

After graduating from high school in 1988, Nord began studying at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at the University of Heidelberg , which she graduated with a diploma in 1993. In the academic year 1994/1995 she taught at the Language and Interpreting School of the English Institute in Heidelberg. From 1994 to 1996 she worked on the dictionary of Italian verbs project at the Universities of Heidelberg and Stuttgart . Since 1996 she has worked as a freelance translator for Italian, English and French and as a lexicographer. In the academic year 2000/2001, Nord taught in the specialist communication department at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences (today the communication and media department). In 2001 she did her doctorate on translation aids: an empirical study on the research behavior of professional translators at the Department of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim (today Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies). Since 2002 she has been teaching at the University of the Languages ​​& Interpreters Institute Munich SDI; From 2010 to 2016 she was a lecturer (professore a contratto) at the Università degli Studi Milan.

Britta Nord lives with her family in Sesto San Giovanni near Milan . She is the daughter of the German translation scholar Christiane Nord .
