Brogsitter winery

history

The Brogsitter are a family of winemakers who have been based in the Ahr valley since the 15th century . The family is closely connected to the former wineries "Zum Domherrenhof" (today "Brogsitter Weingüter") and "Zum heiligen Sanct Peter" (today Gasthaus Sanct Peter). In 1246 the winery was donated to the Cologne Cathedral Monastery. He was officially given the name "Sanct Peter" after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The Spätburgunder from these locations was valued by the clergymen as an altar wine. The inn is mentioned for the first time around 1600 as the "Franconian king's own Meierhof ". Until 1805, the Sanct Peter was the court and winery of the Cologne Cathedral Monastery. At the beginning of the 19th century, under Napoleon I, the property of the canons was also secularized. After the Second World War, Hans-Joachim Brogsitter's father, Hans Brogsitter, took over the “Zum Domherrenhof” and “Sanct Peter” wineries. At the same time he started producing sparkling wine. With the brand name "Graf von Are" the former owner of the estate is paid homage. Location names such as Klosterberg, Domlay, Pfaffenberg and Himmelchen are suggested by the church owners.

The former state domain (previously Marienthal Monastery near Dernau ) goes back to a foundation of the Klosterrath Abbey , which founded the Marienthal Monastery, also known as "Mariae vallis", in 1137. After an eventful history, the monastery property became the Prussian state wine-growing domain in 1925. In 1952, part of the 19 hectares of vineyards became a research institute for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as a red wine sample and trial operation. Since it was sold by the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in September 2004, a quarter of the property has been owned by the Brogsitter family.

Wine cellar

The barrel store is characterized by air conditioning technology. The temperature and humidity therefore correspond to a classically old, underground vaulted cellar. Due to the low evaporation values, the barrels can be stored tightly without the formation of oxidation bubbles. At maximum capacity, the warehouse holds 600 barrique barrels. Mainly red wines of the Spätburgunder and Frühburgunder varieties ripen in them.

Oenological practices / production

The wineries have a grape fermentation facility. Automatic fermentation tanks with pneumatic mash immersion device and fermentation temperature control allow red wine to be refined.

Bottling plant

The filling system allows the automated filling and packaging of 4,000 bottles per hour. Only sheet glass is used in the production process.
