Miss Hawaii

Lee took part in the Miss Hawaii election for the first time and won it straight away.

Miss USA

This entitled her to take part in the Miss USA election, which she won on February 5, 1997. In the final round of the last three, she was asked how she dealt with weight gain. She answered:

I know I'll still be the same girl as I was when I was crowned and it doesn't matter how I look on the outside at all, as I won for what it looks like in my heart. So if I get thicker, thinner, bigger, smaller, my nose bigger or smaller, I will still be the same as I was when I had the crown on.

With this answer, she impressed the jury and was crowned Miss USA .

Miss Universe

Three months later, on May 16, 1997, Lee took part in the Miss Universe election. In the final, she was asked what crazy things she would do if she didn't have to follow any rules for a day. She answered:

"I would eat everything there is in the world! You don't understand me! I would eat everything - twice!"

Then she won the election and is still the oldest Miss Universe of all time at the age of 26 .

Wendy Fitzwilliam from Trinidad and Tobago was her successor .
