No chips in ink cartridges
Brother has not used chip cartridges in its inkjet printers for longer than any other major manufacturer. It was not until 2012 that chips were introduced on the cartridges with the cartridges of the 123 / 127XL series. The long waiver of chips has earned Brother inkjet printers some popularity with users who refill their cartridges themselves, and resulted in low prices for compatible ink cartridges. In the meantime, inexpensive replacement cartridges from third-party manufacturers are also available for most devices with chip-controlled ink cartridges.
