The Brown Peninsula is an almost ice-free peninsula rising from the Ross Ice Shelf , which is connected to this mountain via an isthmus north of Mount Discovery in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It separates the ice shelf from the course of the Koettlitz Glacier to the west .
It was discovered during the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) led by the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott . He wrongly named it Brown Island because of its brownish color and its island-like character. The name was later adapted to the actual nature of the property.
