Brumbach (desert)

Brumbach is a desert near the village of Wippra in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz ( Saxony-Anhalt ). It is located about four kilometers north of Grillenberg in the area of ​​the horses' heads . By 1430 at the latest, the place fell desolate. The forester's lodge Brumbach is still located a little to the north in the valley of the desert.

The place existed as Brunbach before 900 . The name can be proven until at least the 8th century. Documentary evidence of the place, which was then called Brunbeke , exists from 1400 . Apparently the place was named after the brook. Another proven name is Branbeke .

Nearby, the Brumbach flows through the Brumbachswiesen . In the area of ​​the desert, in the area of ​​the Brumbachswiesen, according to the result of the land inspection, amelioration (soil improvement) was deliberately avoided.

The desert is registered in the local monument register as a ground monument.
