Brunhilde (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brunhilde is a punk and metal band from Fürth , Germany, founded in 2013 .

history

The Franconian duo was able to make a name for itself through long players such as Dollhouse and Behind My Mind and through the collaboration with producer Charlie Bauerfeind ( Helloween , Blind Guardian ). In 2019 they became known to a larger audience as support for Nazareth and ZZ Top . The year 2020 marked a stylistic change for the band. On May 22, 2020, Brunhilde released When You Were Born (I Was Already Dead), their first single with a new sound, which, like the following EP Choir Boy (release: June 26, 2020), will prepare for the album in late winter 2021.

founding

Singer Caro Loy and guitarist Kurt Bauereiß have been making music together since 2010 and run the Streetlife Studio in Fürth . In the early days of music together, they tried out different styles in order to ultimately find their own sound.

While looking for a suitable recording opportunity for a new project, metal producer Charlie Bauerfeind ( Helloween , Blind Guardian ) met the duo in spring 2019 :

“I came across Brunhilde by pure chance when I was looking for a spacious studio with good sound for a completely different project. So I inevitably came across the street life in Fürth. Caro and Kurt then played their songs to me in their studio. I found that musically cool and helped both of them get to the point, bring structure to their pieces and find an emotional basis. "

Bauerfeind also brought bassist Oliver Holzwarth (Blind Guardian) and drummer Bastian Emig ( Van Canto ) on board for later recordings . Musically Brunhilde move between rock , punk and metal . Singer Loy explains: "For me Brunhilde is straight and snotty with a great guitar sound and a distinctive voice."

Albums Dollhouse and Behind My Mind

In 2015 the group released their first LP with Dollhouse . Bellfire Records (under Bellaphon ) released the next album Behind My Mind on May 26, 2017, which was preceded by the two singles Fake or Real and If It Hurts . The album celebrated a pre-streamed premiere on the German rock magazine RockHard . The magazine metalglory.com described the long player as "no frills, earthy hard & heavy rock, which is crowned by the sweeping voice", there were also comparisons with Halestorm , Motörhead and BEAST.

In the same year Brunhilde played concerts in Germany and appeared at the Harley Festival in Bensheim and the Loket Festival in the Czech Republic . In 2019 there followed appearances in the opening act of ZZ Top and Nazareth .

Single When You Were Born (I Was Already Dead) and EP Choir Boy

On May 22, 2020, the duo released a new single called When You Were Born (I Was Already Dead) , which acted as the harbinger of the next album. This should appear in late winter 2021. The unusually long release process is accompanied by several early singles and a multi-track EP called Choir Boy , which was released on June 26, 2020. After releases with other record companies, the band took all the reins into their own hands in the run-up to these releases and founded their own label Count & Countess, which is sold physically worldwide through Bertus and Kontor New Media .

The single and the other tracks were recorded in the band's own Streetlife Studios with the support of Bauerfeind, Emig and Holzwarth. Regarding the content of the track, Loy comments: “I'm very resolute, lively, direct - and impatient. This is also what the first single is about. While others are often completely lame and always think for a long time about when and how they want to start something, I've usually already done all the stuff on my own. Before they get up I'm back in bed. "

In September 2020, the third single from the upcoming album will be released with an accompanying video.

Surname

The group did not take the name Brunhilde from the Nibelungenlied . Rather, the Western Django Unchained by producer and director Quentin Tarantino was the godfather for the naming. The protagonist's wife is called Broomhilda, for Tarantino a reference to Brunhilde from Richard Wagner's opera Siegfried . However, it was the unexpected “Broomhilda” in a Hollywood western that inspired Brunhilde, as Carolin Loy recapitulates: “'Brunhilde' is always the subject of heated discussions. That's just not a common name and that's why it sticks in the mind immediately and arouses curiosity. "

Chart performance and reception

When You Were Born went straight to number 5 on the German iTunes Metal Charts. The Spanish online magazine RockInSpain ascribed the single "unlimited power at full speed", and it was also mentioned on Belgian , French and numerous international rock portals as well as on television in Costa Rica .

The EP Choir Boy also met with a positive response: The portal FFM Rock drew comparisons with Skunk Anansie and the Guano Apes and awarded 7 out of 10 points; the online radio station Metal Devastation Radio took Brunhilde after the release in its weekly "Battle of the Bands". Schall Magazin devoted a double page to Choir Boy and Brunhilde; In SLAM magazine the EP even made it onto the magazine CD and was also well received in the review: “Surprisingly hearty and with a really biting sound”, the forerunner for the album puts “the grown arrangement in the foreground and plays the strengths of the former Fun metal formation skillfully ”.
